Weekend Dirty Dozen from The Lists

With the release of my erotic holiday novella, The Lists, I thought I'd do something fun to celebrate it. This little book has been months in the making and I'm very proud of the final product. It just may be the best one yet.

So, in honour of release week, I'm sharing a little bit of The Lists with you.

Here's the blurb, the dozen will follow:

Ever wonder what Santa’s Elves do during the off-season? Some of them are the keepers of Santa’s infamous Naughty and Nice List.

Crispin Winters is one such elf and he’s been in love with Santa’s daughter, Rissa Claus, for longer than he can remember. He’s torn when assigned to watch a human woman, Anna, who could pass for Rissa’s twin. Pass up the opportunity to cure Anna’s naughtiness himself or go after who he really wants?

Risking everything he’s worked so hard to achieve—the cushy spot on the Naughty List night shift, his cozy apartment, and the respect of his peers—Crispin chooses his carnal path with care.

Where it leads him is more unexpected than he could ever have imagined.

And what you've been waiting for, the dozen:

Turning his gaze back to the bank of monitors, Cris flipped through the Naughty List offenders until he found the one he wanted.
Anna Krystle. Offense: wanton masturbation. A long list of elves followed suit. None had been able to ‘cure’ the woman of her addiction to self-pleasuring. Crispin didn’t see touching a body like hers as anything that needed curing. In fact, he shared her addiction wholeheartedly.
The cuckoo clock in the other room called out ten p.m. and, right on time, Anna wandered into view wearing only a towel, fresh from her shower.
Luscious curves, plump breasts, lithe legs and dark hair curling down to the contour of the second most amazing ass he’d ever seen. Anna’s ass came in right behind that of her elven doppelganger, Rissa Claus.
Cris tapped a few keys and the feed went full screen. Would she start off this evening with vibrators, fingers, or his personal favorite—her curved glass dildo? Didn’t really matter. Watching Anna masturbate was a thing of beauty.

I hope you've enjoyed this sneak peek into the Offices of Naughty and Nice. Be sure to check out the other Weekend Dirty Dozen authors on the main site.

As requested... More Brody!!

A few people have asked me for more Brody. I knew I loved him a lot but never realized how much you guys all did, too. Sooo.... Without further ado, here's a little bit of Mr. Callaghan to appease the masses.

~*~

The moon shone down above the meadow where Dad and I stood. Tiny silver filaments of light filtered through the canopy of trees overhead and gave the night a surreal feeling. Fitting, if you considered what we were out there to do.
Mom had taken the older girls deeper into the woods to complete their shift and left me with Dad to go through mine. The first one for me and, as Dad had warned, probably the most painful one I'll ever have to endure.
"Come on, son. You can do it."
I grunted, scenting the air - searching for something, anything to delay the inevitable. The wind carried the scents of spring - rotted vegetation, rain and something else. Something acrid. The smell of fear.
"Brody, get on with it," Dad urged. "Waiting around and psyching yourself out isn't going to make it any easier. If you don't shift voluntarily, the moon will force it on you in a couple of days and then it will be even worse. Now, come on."
"I know," I muttered and kicked at a dead leaf. "I'm scared, Dad."
He sighed and I looked up. I knew that sound. It was his 'I'm trying to be patient but it's getting old' sigh. I gave him my own frustrated exhalation and shrugged out of the thick woolen sweater mom had insisted I wear.
"That's my boy," Dad encouraged.
I gave him my best twelve year old glare and kicked off my runners as I stepped onto the blanket he'd provided. There really was no avoiding it. Dad was right. If I didn't shift now, the change would happen by force. I'd seen it happen to another kid a few months before and there was no way I was going through that kind of pain. Not if I could avoid it.
A lone howl rose in the late night air as I dropped my t-shirt at my feet and stepped out of my jeans. Mom, signaling her change as complete. My sisters wouldn't be far behind.
Hurrying to finish taking my boxers and socks off, I knelt on the blanket and dropped to hands and knees as dad had instructed before we left the house. I recalled his instructions and slowed my breathing to calm my heart rate.
With my eyes closed, I turned my focus inward, searching for the dormant wolf energy that would bring on the change. Dad had said I'd know when I found the right thing. It would feel like a long lost part of myself had finally come home.
I don't know how long it took but when I found the wolf, the elation I felt was quickly overshadowed by the most incredible pain I'd ever experienced. The wolf's energy exploded through me, shattering and reforming bones, rearranging my body to fit the form it wanted me to take. My human mouth screamed, cried and begged for the pain to stop until it couldn't anymore. Whimpers and howls, animal sounds foreign to my vocal chords, replaced my pleas for mercy. I knew there wouldn't be any relief until I was fully shifted, but it didn't stop me from asking for it.
Fire raced down my spine, arching my back until my muzzle pointed skyward. I howled, long and mournfully, as my skin rippled and fur flowed from the tip of my nose to the end of my tail.
I didn't know it then but dad would tell me later it had looked like a storm cloud broke over my skin as my fur grew in. I'd have to take his word for it.
Finally, just when I didn't think I could take any more pain, it stopped and I was left to collapse on the blanket in an exhausted heap.  The wolf, I could tell, was pleased with himself but I couldn't care less. I wanted a nap like I'd never wanted anything else in my life.
Something nudged my right hand, correction - paw, and I cracked open an eyelid to glare at who or whatever was interrupting my attempt at sleep. A pair of golden eyes framed by light gray fur stared back. Dad, great. He nudged me again and, with a frustrated chuff, I gave him what he wanted. I stood... And promptly crashed right back down to the blanket.
Dad yipped, his wolfy version of an order to 'haul ass solider and get back up'. I barked at him but did as instructed. Unsteadily, I got up on all four of my new legs and waited for the next nose dive. When it looked like I might remain upright I tried a few tentative steps, relying on the wolf to show me the way. Walking on all fours was foreign to me but the animal part of my psyche knew what it was doing and I let it take over.
The wolf shouldered me aside just as my older sisters, Moira and Maeve, bounded into the clearing and bowled me over with their exuberance. We rolled into a bush together, yipping and snarling as they tried to pin me down. My wolf was having none of that.
We were destined to be the pack alpha one day. We would bow to no one.

Stretched out on their blanket, sun shining down through the canopy of leaves above them, Brody watched Ardeur. The smooth column of her throat worked as she swallowed the last of her bottled water. His body reacted instantly and he cursed himself for being a lecherous bastard. Relax, he thought. Down boy. Dating and stuff first.
Ardy shifted to lie down beside him and snuggled into his right side. She smiled up at him, “So, question for you.”
He grinned and asked, “Are we revisiting our twenty questions session from the other day?”
“Yes,” she laughed softly. “I want to know everything about you. We’ve missed a lot of time together, Brody.”
“I know. Okay. Go ahead,” he prompted. “Ask.”
She rested her right arm over his belly and squeezed gently. “What’s your favorite movie?”
Brody thought about it for a minute. He wanted to say American Werewolf in London but decided to go one better. “Van Helsing,” he replied instead. Before she could respond, he asked, “Yours?”
He tried to resist laughing out loud and knew he’d failed miserably when she poked his side and called bullshit. She tapped one slim, manicured fingertip on her chin as she thought.
“Oddly enough, Ghost.”
Holding in a groan, he glanced down at her. Well, duh, he thought. Of course.
“Okay. What’s your favorite color?” he asked while tracing her features with his mind.
With a grin, she pointed at her shirt. Low cut and revealing way more than he wanted anyone else but him to see of her, the vermillion material clung to every curve. His wolf growled appreciatively and Brody couldn’t agree more with it.
“Silly question, baby. Red, obviously.” She brought his left hand to her lips and nipped at his knuckles. “You? Oh, and what’s your favorite food?”
His favorite color? He didn’t really have one. As for favorite food—did she count? Brody shook away the thought. That way laid danger and things she wasn’t ready for yet.
“It’s a couple of colors, I guess. I like brown, black, blue and white.” Looking down at her again, he smiled devilishly. “As for food, now that’s a hard one,” he replied while acting like he had to think about it. “Hmm, I’d have to say tangerines.”
Purring gently in her ear, Brody smirked as the citrusy scent of her lust drifted to him. He watched her, enjoying the glazed look and obvious desire shinning in Ardy’s eyes.
“Damn,” she sighed. “Um, favorite thing of yours?”
Once again, his thoughts veered to her body and he chided himself. “Right now?” he asked and she nodded. “You. Your personality, your body… everything about you.” Sliding a hand up her thigh, he asked about her favorite season and thanked the gods for the sudden inspiration.
“Season?” She tucked her face into his neck and inhaled before replying, “Fall. The colors are pretty, and it smells like you do. Rich, earthy and home. You?”
Brody wrapped his right arm around her and held Ardeur against him. Gods, she fit him perfectly.
“Well, Goldie. You’re all summer, and it’s a tie now with winter.” He chuckled when she huffed and continued, “You see. When I was a pup and it would snow…” Brody grinned, remembering how fun it was to roll around in the snow and chase after the flakes as they fell from the sky. “Just, it was great.” Placing a kiss on her forehead, he asked, “Favorite place?”
She brought a hand up to caress his cheek and he stared back into her eyes, noting the light gray flecks in the dark, periwinkle blue. Her thumb brushed across his cheekbone and it took everything he had not to lean up and kiss her.
“Right here, wrapped up in you,” she replied. “The tub would come a distant second.” He blinked in surprise and she smiled. “It’s a great place to think. What’s yours?”
It used to be the pack, he thought, but it didn’t feel like home anymore. Here, with her in his arms. This was where he belonged.
“Right here,” he murmured against her lips. “With you.”
Ardy opened for him and he took possession of her mouth. She kissed him back with equal passion and he growled with approval. Rolling, he settled her beneath him on the blanket.
“Goldie,” he groaned with their lips a whisper apart. He slid his hands up her thighs, kissing his way down her neck as her fingers gripped his shoulders.
Brody didn’t realize how far things had progressed until Ardeur slid her hands beneath his shirt and tugged it up to bare his stomach. He pulled back, the glow from his eyes bathing her face in soft, golden hues. Sitting back on his heels between her denim clad thighs, Brody shook himself and scrubbed a hand over his face.
“Baby? What’s wrong?” Ardeur asked. “Why’d you stop?”
Embarrassed, he gave her a reassuring smile. “Sorry. I let myself get carried away. We agreed to go slow and—yeah. I can’t promise that I’ll be able to stop if we get down to skin on skin.”
She bit her lip and he groaned internally. Gods, that simple little gesture stirred his lust up again and it took every ounce of his willpower not to damn the consequences of kissing her once more.
“Okay,” she said, and smiled. “Favorite thing to do by yourself?”
Brody laughed, settled onto the blanket beside her and pulled Ardeur back against his side. More at peace with himself than he’d felt in ages, he brushed his lips over Ardy’s hair and answered her question. The greedy bastard in his pants wasn’t happy with the change in activity but, oh well—he’d deal with the discomfort until she was ready. Silently, he prayed it was soon.

One more sleep...

The relaunch of Ardeur is tomorrow. As my kids would say... One more sleep!

My first novel is coming back with a new cover, a  new series title and has been edited by a pro. Isn't it pretty?

I'm blogging today to let you know Ardeur is going up for sale tomorrow. For a limited time, it's being offered at the friendship rate of 99 cents, and that certainly applies to all of my loyal fans and followers.

The print edition won't be out for another two weeks (and if you prefer a print copy, please let me know), but you can find the eBook at Barnes &Noble and Amazon right now.

Please feel free to pass this friendship deal on to any Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance fans you know, the more the merrier. In any endeavor in life, it's all in who you know!

And now for a bit of fun... I thought you might like to see the people I pictured while writing Ardeur

Channing Tatum as Brody Mason Callaghan
Ex-Military (Captain), Werewolf
Brown hair, hazel eyes

Six feet, three inches tall

I know Channing isn't every woman's fantasy but, dayum... he does it for me. Rar.

Amanda Seyfried as Ardeur Blaise Lisle
Necromancer, Killer for Hire
Blonde hair, blue eyes
Five feet, four inches tall

She's got the sultry but sweet look I envisioned for Ardy down pat.

Azrael
Angel of Death
Black hair, blue eyes
Six feet, four inches tall

I have no idea who this guy is. I saw him on another author's blog and... yeah,  perfect.  You'll see why in Cassiela.

I hope you've all enjoyed this quick peek into the world of Ardeur. I'll be over at Mind Reader on Monday with a giveaway. Hint: the answer is in this blog post.

Have a great weekend everyone and run, don't walk, to get your copy of Ardeur tomorrow!

Launch me baby, one more time...

Yes, I went there.

Now that I've got your attention let me tell you why. I'm re-releasing my first book, Ardeur, on August 19th, 2011 through Red Hot Publishing. Just two short weeks away.  Exciting times!

Anyone who follows me on Twitter or Facebook knows I've been hard at work with my editor getting the book polished to within an inch of its life. With that goes a huge thank you to Shontrell Wade of Wade-Staten Services. You rock!

I took some time off from the craziness of formatting and editing (for others) to work on the new cover yesterday. You may be familiar with the old/current cover:

While cute, I'm not in love with it and decided that - with a fresh new face on the inside - there should be one of the outside as well. I posted the new covers on Facebook last night, but I'll put them here too.

Here's the eBook cover:

And here's the print cover:

It came to my attention during edits that a glossary of terms and characters would be handy, and so... I'm going to include one. Seems not everyone knows what a Nephilim or Dhampyre is.... Who knew?

I'm hoping to have all of the technical stuff done by the weekend so that I can turn my focus toward setting up reviews, guest blogs, etc... My wonderful publisher, Red Hot Publishing, is working on scheduling a book blog tour and I've got my fingers crossed that it goes well.

We'll see.

Some of you may be wondering about the sequel, Cassiela. I've put it aside for the time being. The book needs a massive rewrite and I've got a few other projects that need completing before I can get back to it. My plate is a little full and, with surgery scheduled for mid-October, I need to clear off as much as I can before I'm laid up for two weeks.

Two novellas and a revision on a full length novel in two months? Sure, I can do it! LOL, I have to.

On that note, back to work I go.

It's launch day!!

Hey gang!

Digital Digest has officially launched. Woohoo! *does happy dance* Come on everyone. Dance with me!

First up on the blog to celebrate the launch and Canada Day (like I'd forget to sneak in a mention of my nation's birthday...lol)? Me!! Come by and check out the first installment of Untouchable.

Now, you guys know I wouldn't be a very good blog momma if I didn't throw in a sales pitch for the baby I've been working on for a couple of months now. So, here goes...

I'm one of fifteen writers involved in a new venture to capitalize on the Kindle platform - the device as well as the reading application. There are almost ten thousand blogs available on Kindle right now for a paid subscription. We're launching ours on July first and need your help.

If you could sign up for the free two-week trial membership, it will help boost our blog ranking. Being higher in the rankings means more eyes on our blog and hopefully more paying subscriptions later. We do not expect you to stay on after the free trial; this request is solely to move our blog up higher for readers to find it.

The blog is called Digital Digest, and it’s a collection of original fiction (young adult, romance, fantasy, horror and everything in between) and non-fiction (book reviews, articles).

Here's how you find our blog on Kindle:

On July 1, 2011, please go to the Kindle store
Do a search for: Digital Digest
Click on Subscribe

You're done.

If, by chance, you open this email after the first, we could still use additional subscribers! And on that note, if you know of anyone with a Kindle who likes to read, then please feel free to pass this email on.

Thanks so much for supporting us. The goal is to get our work out to readers in the hopes of boosting sales for our publications, but the possibility of earning money on a Kindle subscription is a dream come true for any writer!

**I'll be sending out a reminder notice for you to un-subscribe on the 12th of July. My email plea was not so you'd be an ongoing supporter (although we won't stop you if you want to stay!), but to help our blog be seen by possible paying subscribers.

Revamping

So to speak.

I'm re-conceptualizing my blog. What will the finished product look like? Not sure. Stay tuned.

Covers, Covers...and more covers.

I've been working on covers a lot lately and think I've finally come up with one to replace the original for Ardeur. Not that I don't love the one there now... I'm experimenting a bit to see if a change in cover will convert into a boost in sales.

What do you think? Stick with the old or in with the new?

I've been busy...lol

This past week has seen a lot of new stuff for me. Two books released, Tarnished Tiaras and Cursed - The Erotic Adventures of Sidony Tassen.

Tarnished Tiaras is a collection of short stories featuring a few "princesses" you may recognize. :) A few of the stories have been featured on Everything Erotic and here, on this blog.

An author friend directed me to the artwork of J. Scott Campbell and his versions of some of the princesses I haven't attempted to rewrite were very inspiring. Stay tuned, there may be a Tarnished Tiaras II.

Anyone who follows Everything Erotic will recognize The Erotic Adventures of Sidony Tassen. A few chapters have been added, as well as the title change. I haven't decided yet whether one of the additional chapters will make an appearance on Everything Erotic. It may, because it explains a bit of what happens in the final two chapters...but then, if anyone is really interested in seeing what happened - they could purchase the entire story. Instant gratification instead of waiting months to read the chapters on the blog.

Something else that's been keeping me busy is my newfound addiction (and apparent talent) for cover design. The two shown above are my own design and I also put one together for M.K. Elliott's upcoming release of Rescued II. Day by day, I'm learning a bit more about how to use Photoshop and it's great fun.

Yesterday, I went to my monthly writer's Meetup and left with a new idea for an old story. We were given a story prompt and I think the beginning is a keeper. Now all that remains is working out the rest of the story and getting the darn thing written. Assuming I can put down my Bamboo tablet long enough, I might actually get it done.

That's this week in a nutshell. Wish me good sales...and productive writing.

What's the story, Morning Glory?

Not much, actually.

Hubby and I each got new jobs which goes in the Yay! column. The boys are doing well at school and life, as we know it, is moving along swimmingly.

Another check in the Yay! column is the Everything Erotic blog's success. Our reader base is growing by leaps and bounds and the eBook sales are fabulous. Joining the amazingly talented group of women who contribute to this venture was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I've learned so much and made some wonderful new friends along the way.

I received a stellar review from Majanka Verstraete at I <3 Books for Ardeur. Here's a sneak peak of some things she said about the book.

Possession is Nine Tenths: Ardeur was a nice surprise. I had expected this novel to be entertaining, but I hadn’t expected it to focus on so many different things, and actually build a rich and wonderful world where humans and angels, demons, necromancers, etc. live side by side.
I loved the strong feelings and topics that were touched throughout this novel: abandonement, love, friendship, courage, independence, fear.
The story is deep, very deep, especially for a fantasy novel. As I already mentioned, it touches so many sensitive and interesting topics, and waves them into one fast-paced, well-written and highly entertaining story. It’s very dark though, a lot darker than I had at first anticipated, but that’s the part that makes this novel more than ‘just another fantasy story’ and turns it into something a lot more memorable and interesting.
I've included a link to the full four star review above for those who'd like to read it.

In other publishing news, Tarnished Tiaras and The Erotic Adventures of Sidony Tassen collections should be up by end of the month - I hope. Tarished Tiaras in the the final stages of editing and I've a couple more chapters of Sidony to write before she sees the editing room as well. Fun times, I tell you. :)

The word count for Cassiela ( Book II of Possession is Nine Tenths ) is hovering just above 40K and I've been working feverishly to up the count to where it should be - somewhere around 60 or 70K...maybe higher. Considering there are currently twenty-six chapters... and I'm shooting for 30 with a total end word count of 80 to 85K. Yeah.. work needs doing.

One thing spurring me to work hard and fast is my involvement with the Free Fantastical Fiction blog. Each Friday, until half of the book has been released, I publish a chapter of Cassiela as a free read. I may have to split some chapters to prolong my posting since the book isn't slated for publication until July 2011 and Chapter Eight goes up in two days. Eek.

Last, but most exciting is that I signed my first ever publishing contract! Red Hot Publishing will be my new home for all things published from now on. This is a wonderful partnership and great things will come of it. I'm sure.

Alright...the fingers of fury must get back to typing. Cassiela will not write itself and I must get that word count up, up, up!

Danielle
